THE #1 REASON WHY YOU HAVE A CLOSET FULL OF CLOTHES BUT NOTHING TO WEAR
Are you someone who has a closet full of clothes and yet, NOTHING to wear? You like specific pieces in your wardrobe but putting outfits together feels tiresome and overwhelming?
Know what you're missing? A style roadmap.
A style roadmap is a vision of your personal style for the upcoming season. Instead of shopping randomly, you shop strategically and with intention. Ideally, you shop for complete outfits versus individual pieces.
Below I'm sharing 5 critical steps required to create your own personal style roadmap for the upcoming spring/summer 2019 season. Good luck! And if you need some help, click here to learn more about my signature styling package - the Sort, Shop & Style.
5 STEPS REQUIRED TO CREATE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE ROADMAP...
So you can stop buying random clothes, start shopping with intention, and end up with a streamlined closet consisting of many more outfits to wear.
1: PLAN & RESEARCH
Having a plan always makes life easier, doesn't it? Take the time to sit, flip through magazines or your favorite style blogs, and think about the styles you like for the upcoming season. Do you have any special events? Business conferences? Include as much detail as you can in the planning phase. This is similar to a rough draft - just put all your thoughts and ideas down on paper or in your phone.
2: ASSESS YOUR CURRENT WARDROBE
Knowing what you already have in your current wardrobe is a key step. Many of us forget pieces from last season that we haven't worn in a year so it's a good idea to refresh your memory. You may write down that you'd love a jumpsuit style for spring only to find out that you already own one from last year!
3: MAKE A LIST
Write down your shopping wish list and review it over the next several days. Narrow down the choices to the pieces your wardrobe is currently missing. You might consider writing down your wish list as outfits, rather than individual items. For example:
Spring Shopping List
Event: Jeremy's May 2019 Wedding
You'll discover that the crossbody bag from the spring wedding can be used for all evening/going out ensembles.
4: SHOP WITH INTENTION
Armed with your list, start the shop! Since you've done all the legwork to prepare for your shopping trip, the experience should feel relatively stress free. Staying focused will prevent unnecessary and random purchases. Remember, the goal is to create a streamlined wardrobe without excess.
5: SNAP PHOTOS
Flat lay your individual outfits and take pictures so you have a catalogue of your wardrobe. My clients find this very helpful when they are in a rush to get ready in the morning. Outfit photos can also help when packing for business trips or vacation.
