HAPPY NEW YEAR!
After a festive holiday break with family, I'm getting back in the game and organizing myself for a fresh start. I love a clean slate, don't you? I spent last week celebrating Christmas and my twins' 14th birthday but also reflecting on personal highlights and business game changers in 2017. It was a hectic and happy year with my twins starting high school which took me on an emotional roller coaster!
In 2018 I look forward to my youngest graduating from elementary school and on a personal level, a renewed mindset of enjoying the simple things. My fitness goal is to do a handstand and I'm looking forward to a summer adventure that's currently in the works.
Wishing you a happy start to 2018 - this year is going to be amazing!
ELAINE'S 2018 RESOLUTIONS
Can I share a secret with you? I LOVE paper, in a "closeted scrapbooker" kind of way! So this year, in an effort to separate myself from my phone and other gadgets, I'm embracing my love of all things paper. As in STICKERS! And WASHI TAPE!
Every time I feel the urge to pick up my phone and poke around on social media or send a nonsense text, I'm going to doodle instead. To me, that's much more calming and helps me feel ready for the next big task I have to focus on.
3. READ MORE BOOKS
My goal is to read 25 books this year and I'm starting with Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward and Good to Great by Jim Collins. What are you reading?
4. DO LESS TO DO MORE
I dislike when people use "I'm so busy" as a badge of honor - it's just not for me. I get it, we're all busy and our lives are crazy but I'm not into boasting about it. So when I feel caught up in the whirlwind of being busy, I'm going to take myself outside and go for a hike instead. It's a form of personal therapy that helps keep me grounded.
5. BUY LESS
This year, I turn 45 and I've been investing in classic pieces for the past 2 years. Since I'm not into being trendy, I'm going to instead focus on fully utilizing the clothes I already have which means keeping my wardrobe fresh with a few key pieces each season but not over buying.
What are your resolutions for 2018?
** SIMPLY CHIC STYLING TURNS 4! **
Hard to believe that my entrepreneurial journey started 4 years ago when an idea lightbulb went off while I was volunteering at Dress for Success. My business brings me joy and I'm grateful for all the smart, beautiful women who have trusted me over the past 4 years. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
During times of personal self reflection, I also spend time looking back at business performance and thinking about how I'd do things differently in the coming year. Below, I'm sharing the 4 business game changers in 2017 that will set me up for big success in 2018.
4 Business Game Changers
CRM TOOL - If you have a small business and are still using various spreadsheets, notebooks, and pieces of paper to keep organized, get yourself a CRM tool, pronto. Consolidating the back end is life changing - I use Insightly.
STREAMLINE SERVICES - Last season, I reduced the number of styling services to 2, a major game changer because it has helped attract customers that are absolutely within my niche target market.
GOOGLE MY BUSINESS - The single most important marketing decision I've ever made was to invest the time in Google My Business. It allows potential clients to search on Google and find me.
MARKETING EVALUATION - Last summer while on the beach in Ocean City, NJ, I had an 'aha' moment. Several marketing channels weren't bringing in any new clients so right then and there - while my kids were jumping waves - I decided to cut them. Such a simple decision and huge time saver. I'm no longer sending newsletters because my target audience doesn't read them and posting on social media is no longer a daily priority.
THANK YOU for coming along with me on this adventure. I'm loving every moment of being a personal stylist and can't thank you enough for the opportunity to style you.
